Wayang (Puppet) is one culture that has existed since hundreds of years ago in Java and Bali. One of the museums in Indonesia that holds the artwork based on the Mahabharata-Ramayana are, Kekayon Museum, which is located on the highway Yogya-Wonosari Km 7, Yogyakarta. This museum houses many privileges. Entering the location of the museum, visitors are greeted flock of birds chirping and the cool air. The museum is also still keeps a complete variety of types of puppets, which are not inferior to the existing collection of puppet museum in Jakarta, such as Wayang Purwa, Wayang Madya, Wayang Thengul, Wayang Klithik, Wayang Beber, Wayang Suluh, Wayang Gedhok.

Entering the museum, you will find wayang madya made of leather. Puppets made of leather is usually used as a medium to convey classic stories, like the story of Rama and Shinta, or stories Pandhawa Lima. Kekayon museum also holds many shadow play with the characters in the puppet figures and national heroes, such as Sukarno and Prince Diponegoro. Kekayon museum also keeps a replica building that illustrates the history of Indonesia began from ancient times up to the time of independence.

The museum was established since 1987. This museum has a collection of as many as 5,465 pieces of 25 types of puppets both from within and from abroad. The museum is open every day, starting at 8:00 to 14:30 pm, except Mondays.
